We are always on the lookout for new recruits to join and strengthen the band. Contrary to popular belief you do not have to be strong to ring church bells and we welcome people of all ages, both men and women.
Bellringing is an art that has been developed and passed from generation to generation in Britain for well over three hundred years. The the beauty of learning this art is that you can progress as far as you wish; in fact ringers that choose not to progress into advanced methods are just as useful when it comes to ringing for services and weddings as those who are very experienced.
For those who wish to progress, one of the advantages is that there is no end to the learning curve. It also has the big advantage in keeping the mind alert in later years, a lot more so than constantly tackling crossword puzzles or sudokus!
To give an insight into what bellringing is all about, the North American Guild website is worth a visit where you can also see a video clip of the bells being rung at Trinity church New York, the only church with ringable bells in the city. The website can be found on http://www.nagcr.org/pamphlet.html
If this has whetted your appetite, then do come along to our practice on a Thursday night between 8:00pm and 9:30pm and have a go yourself. You would be under no obligation to stay if you find that it is not for you. Alternatively you can send us an email.
